East Toronto Osteopath

A lot of people don't know exactly what an osteopathic physician does. Osteopathic physicians are referred to as DOs and are probably the most thoroughly trained physicians in Canada today. Osteopathic physicians can legally practice just as MDs can, and they can practice in all of the specialty fields that MDs do.

Do DOs Have Different Training and Education?

In osteopathic medical school, DOs study and master all of the same subjects as MDs, but integrated into a DO's curriculum, are osteopathic philosophies and techniques. You could say that osteopathic physicians are doctors with advanced training.

Should I Consult an East Toronto Osteopath?

On top of medicine and surgery, ortheopathic physicians are known for using their hands to find and treat problems in patients who suffer from medical issues. As osteopathic physicians, we believe that many diseases are related to problems within the muscles, bones, nerves, lymphatic system, circulatory system, and internal organs. As osteopathic physicians, we focus on finding where there are problems or dysfunctions by using our hands.

Knowing the difference between what an MD practices and what an osteopathic physician practices can help you make the choice that's best for you.

How Does Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (or OMM) Work?

Using osteopathic manipulative medicine, DOs focus on treating the underlying problems. Many times, this can be done in conjunction with medications and or surgery or in place of medication and or surgery, depending upon the underlying condition.

When Should I Visit an East Toronto Osteopath?

If you are experiencing any of the following problems, you may benefit substantially from a visit to an experienced osteopathic physician:

  • Headaches
  • Neck Pain
  • Back Pain
  • Joint Pain
  • Pneumonia
  • Gastrointestinal Disturbances

What are the Benefits of Choosing Osteopathic Physicians Over MDs

Using osteopathic manipulative medicine can reduce one's reliance on medication and surgery, and quite often, patients begin to notice improvements within one to three visits. At Beach Clinic Integrated Health, we treat the whole person and let the body do what it does best - heal itself!

Where Does Osteopathy Originate?

As osteopathic physicians, we have "DO" after our names, rather than "MD." While we have our differences, we also have our similarities. Osteopathy was founded by a physician-surgeon who served in the civil war. He felt that treatments being used were ineffective and sometimes harmful. In the 21st Century, we believe that same thing.

In 1892, the founder of osteopathy started the first official school of osteopathy, holding and teaching that the structures and internal functions of the body are inter-related and has innate ability to heal itself.
